Welcome to Vi’s Kitchen! This website was set up to help our family share recipes from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Our family was born and raised in the Copper Country, and even though we are now spread throughout the country, we are proud Yoopers at heart!

Most of our favorite memories revolve around family and food. As a child, the major holidays were the most anticipated events of the year. They were the largest family gatherings, and we just knew our favorite foods would be on display! Grame and Pops were the Chief Baker and Master Chef who toiled away to make all of our favorite dishes, and everyone else pitched in where they could! We learned all sorts of life lessons, including an early marketing message. Just like the famed Pumpkin Spice Latte, some special dishes were available for a limited time only! Ragu was the showcase Easter dish, Pop’s pizza would headline Halloween, and the Holy-Grail, Papa-tica would warm our bellies throughout Christmas.

While the major holidays were the pinnacle events, an impromptu party could pop up at just about anytime. These small gatherings could feature a Yooper favorite, the prized Cornish Pasty, fresh Lake Superior Lake Trout or Grame’s famous catchy-havesies which were a culmination of the weekly leftovers! All it took was family, a few friends, laughter and plenty of food!

Thank you for stopping by, and we hope you enjoy our little website. If you are willing to share some of your family recipes, find us on the contacts page.
