Ingredients

  • 4 Saffron Threads
  • 2 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 3 Packages Yeast
  • 12 Cups Flour
  • 2 Cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Salt
  • 1 Lb Oleo
  • Raisins If Desired

Instructions

Saffron Preparation

  • Soak 4 Saffron Threads Overnight In 3 Cups Boiling Water
  • In Morning Warm This Mixture & Add 2 Tablespoons Sugar & 3 Yeast
  • Let Stand For Awhile

Dough Mixture

  • In A Separate Bowl. Add 12 Cups Flour, 2 Cups Granulated Sugar & 1 Tablespoon Salt
  • Mix in 1 Lb Oleo (Like you would a Pie Crust)
  • Mix Saffron Mixture with Dry Ingredients
  • Add About 1 Additional Cup of Warm Water Until Dough is Sticky
  • (If Desired) Wash & Plump Raisins Add to Dough
  • Let Rise
  • Then Mix Rest of Flour & Let Rise Again
  • Pan, but Do Not Knead After It Has Risen
  • Let Rise in Pans & Bake At 345 Degrees For 30/40 Minutes
