Nana’s Saffron Bread

Saffron Bread
Ingredients
- 4 Saffron Threads
- 2 Tablespoons Sugar
- 3 Packages Yeast
- 12 Cups Flour
- 2 Cups Granulated Sugar
- 1 Tablespoon Salt
- 1 Lb Oleo
- Raisins If Desired
Instructions
Saffron Preparation
- Soak 4 Saffron Threads Overnight In 3 Cups Boiling Water
- In Morning Warm This Mixture & Add 2 Tablespoons Sugar & 3 Yeast
- Let Stand For Awhile
Dough Mixture
- In A Separate Bowl. Add 12 Cups Flour, 2 Cups Granulated Sugar & 1 Tablespoon Salt
- Mix in 1 Lb Oleo (Like you would a Pie Crust)
- Mix Saffron Mixture with Dry Ingredients
- Add About 1 Additional Cup of Warm Water Until Dough is Sticky
- (If Desired) Wash & Plump Raisins Add to Dough
- Let Rise
- Then Mix Rest of Flour & Let Rise Again
- Pan, but Do Not Knead After It Has Risen
- Let Rise in Pans & Bake At 345 Degrees For 30/40 Minutes
