White Bread

Deliciously moist home made white bread

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Potato Water
  • 3 Tablespoons Sugar
  • 2 Teaspoons Salt
  • 3 Tablespoons Oleo or Crisco
  • 2 Packages Dry Yeast
  • 5-6 Cups All Purpose Flour

Instructions

  • Heat 1/2 cup potato water, sugar, salt & oleo in a small sauce pan over low heat until oleo melts and sugar dissolves.
  • Cool until mixture is lukewarm or around 110 degrees and add yeast. Let mixture sit for 10 minutes. (Ensure water is not too hot or yeast will not activate)
  • Add remaining ingredients and knead until smooth. 
  • Place into greased loaf pans and let rise until dough doubles in size.
  • Bake at 375 degrees for about 35-45 minutes or until golden brown. 
  • Cool on baking racks, slice and enjoy!

    For those who don’t know: a great way to get the potato water is to have mashed potatoes the night before and save the water you boil the potatoes in.
